Choosing between the Roborock S5 Max and S7

Roborock's S5 Max and S7 are at the high end of the Roborock robot vacuum range. Both are impressive, but which one is better?

Differences between the S5 Max and S7

While the S5 Max and S7 seem to have only a few differences, there's actually quite a bit that's different. Most of it is outside of view. Here's wha's different between the two.

• The Roborock S7 has High Speed Sonic Mopping which the S5 Max lacks. This mopping technology vibrates the mopping pad for better cleaning.
• Only the S7 lifts it's mopping pad when over carpeted surfaces. This helps keep the wet pad out of the way while vacuuming.
• The S7 has 25% more suction power, with the S5 Max and S7 capable of 2000 Pa and 2500 Pa respectively.
• While both look similar, the S7 has a floating brush that adjusts better to uneven surfaces than the brush on the S5 Max.
• Both robots can identify carpet and adjust their suction level, but only the S7 makes note of carpeted areas on its map.

While minor, the S7 also has a slightly larger dustbin and water tank. Both the bin and tank are 10 mL larger on the S7 than the S5 Max.

Our recommendation

Both of these robot vacuums are great choices. They both are adept at mapping, navigation, vacuuming and mopping.

Between the two, we recommend the Roborock S7. It has more advanced mopping and more powerful suction power when cleaning hard floors and carpet. The S5 Max is a great alternative if you aren't as concerned about mopping or live in a lower traffic home.
